This instrument is the original all Koa big bodied acoustic guitar, out of which comes the Contemporary Hawaiian. The Bunnel is one of the first custom build guitars Michael Sussman created and is the most requested custom build guitar Michael produces. This Anahola instrument is a big bodied all Koa 6-string guitar.  Sussman describes this guitar: "This tree grew at a low elevation.  It is the most ancient Koa I have built with.  It has a very beautiful sound with rich sustaining overtones. There are mother-of-pearl Anahola mountains in the head-stock and as fret position markers; each smaller in size as they progress up the neck, with pearl Koa leaves at the 12th fret.  The sound-hole rosette and top binding are in abalone.  The entire instrument is made from the same tree.  The top and back are domed, as are all internal bracing, and the neck is set back to accommodate the dome of the top and still retain a fine action.  Delicately graduated top and back plates have given this instrument a 200-year-old sound in the body of a newborn."

The Bunnel can also be made as a 12-string.
